You might disagree with her, but Mahua Moitra not Rahul Gandhi is the kind of opposition India deserves

“In a country where minister cannot produce degree to prove they graduated from a certain college, you expect dispossessed people to show paper to prove they belong to this country?”

A loud and confident voice, quotes from Maulana Azad to Rahat Indori, point to point targeting of the government and all that backed with facts, that’s Mahua Moitra for you. In times when opposition is crawling, one woman MP stands firm in the house and questions the government like a fighter. This is exactly the kind of voice India deserves. And no matter how much you support the ruling party, it cannot be denied that a strong opposition is absolutely crucial to maintain the system of checks and balances in the country. Because to err is human and when the Modi government with a mind-boggling majority would err there has to be a credible voice in the opposition to ring the alarm bells. Mahua Moitra is just that. She is an ex-investment banker who appears to be made for politics. For once, cheers to Mamata Banerjee for bringing her in.

In her maiden speech in the parliament, Mahua Moitra exhibited her outstanding oratory skills by targeting the Modi government on several fronts, from lynchings to one-religion-favouritism. No amount of screaming and sloganeering from rival MPs could subdue her voice. She presented her views in a flawless and fearless manner, something Rahul Gandhi and the chief opposition party could never manage.
