Soon trains to run at 160 kmph, Delhi to Mumbai in less than half a day

"The plan is a big one and requires an enormous overhaul of the current railway structure"

The tik-tok videos on tracks must stop as the trains are now going to zoom in too fast. The plan is a big one and requires an enormous overhaul of the current railway structure. But that is what railways plans to accomplish in the coming four years, as stated in a proposal submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai are two busiest roots in the country. And the quickest wheels plying on them are of Rajdhani Express as of now at a mere 130.

The project when completed would tug down the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to 10 hours. And if the fares are set alright, the trains might just give competition to flights. The railway hopes to get the proposal cleared within 100 days and considering how much our PM loves fast trains, this doesn’t seem farfetched.

In the same proposal, Indian Railways also mentions its plan to bring in private players to improve passenger experience. And private companies can be really fancy. Expect a flight like experience once everything falls on place.
