Virat Kohli’s birthday letter to his younger self is all the inspiration we need to value life
“Kohli got his own thinking cap out and wrote a lovely letter to his 15 year old self. Virat Kohli posted this letter on Twitter and it’s a gem! The birthday note is every bit of inspiration you need to savour the best from life"
Virat Kohli is barely creative with his shot making. His batting is a textbook classic. The beauty is in the effortless, almost mechanic repetition. However, it seems Kohli can be a lot more creative in real life and why not? National duty isn’t at stake in personal life. On Tuesday, November 5, when fans were looking for special ways to wish birth anniversary to their captain, Kohli got his own thinking cap out and wrote a lovely letter to his 15 year old self. Virat Kohli posted this letter on Twitter and it’s a gem! The birthday note is every bit of inspiration you need to savour the best from life.
Hello Chiku,
The letter starts, Kohli goes on to explain his teenage self the value of savouring everything –good or bad that life has to offer.
Not knowing what is in store makes every surprise sweet, every challenge thrilling and every disappointment and opportunity to learn.. it’s more about the journey than the destination..
Virat has very beautifully touched upon the essence of life in these two lines –uncertainty. Nobody knows where life would take them. Your job is to put in efforts. A champion batsman like Virat Kohli has faced disappointments too in his life. And now as he sits at the throne of cricketing world he realizes the worth of those failures. He understands that it’s about the process, about giving it all and relishing it. The time you spend in journey is far longer than the time you spend at the destination, better live it to the fullest!
Never take what you have for granted… you will fail.. promise yourself you will never forget to rise.
It’s easy to ignore what you have and focus on what you don’t. The curiosity for new and better has driven human development since ages. However, in today’s modern world when there is no end to materialistic pleasures, one may get absolutely lost into a sense of dissatisfaction. You have got that house, parents, the ability to read and write and a lot more. You don’t find that enough? Just Google how many people around the world are devoid of these basic necessities and you might just start feeling luckier.
Virat goes on to elaborate on the ‘never give up’ attitude that has propelled him to where he is at the moment. Having seen the journey, he understands the setbacks that are waiting for his younger self. He just wishes that Chiku doesn’t quit. You can never know for sure which wall that has popped up across you is hiding behind it the goal you had been chasing. Don’t keep yourself from breaking it down!
You will be loved by many and disliked too.. don’t care about them
There is a popular saying, if you want to please all you might end up pleasing none. The world houses some wonderful people and some, well not so much. A lot of people you would come across in your life would act as speed breakers. They try to slow you down with their crap-talk. It’s upon you to brush them away. Never lose the sight of your goal. Don’t waste a minute in caring about people who hate you. There is no time for that. Life is short.
On the next page of the letter, Virat melts down into memories of his father. He tells young Virat to value his family. He expects him to care for his father. It’s possible to earn back everything materialistic but it’s not possible to bring back the love of the ones who are gone. While we can’t do much about the mortality of life, we can ensure when our loved ones depart, they take great memories with them.
Virat Kohli is a gem because life carved him into one. Life would carve you too. And it’s hard. Your job is to stay strong and focused while it does that. The journey would offer you all the courses you need to succeed in life. However, it’s upon you to keep moving!
