BSNL 4G : People rejoice as BSNL says we aren’t done yet!

"BSNL had been kept out of the 4G race. It was forced to play handicap in a fast-paced derby. It appeared as if it was unwanted in the market"

In July, the government reported a loss of 14000 crore for BSNL. The doomsayers were out with swords. Obituaries were written several times over. In fact the salaries of about 1.6 lakh BSNL employees haven’t been paid so far and it’s already mid-October. It appeared that the state run telecom company was simply incapable of competing with the private players.

BSNL had been kept out of the 4G race. It was forced to play handicap in a fast-paced derby. It appeared as if it was unwanted in the market. Imagine a mobile company with 2 MP camera competing with the three-eyed lens of iPhone. There was no way BSNL could have made profits.

However, it appears the tide can fast turn into BSNL’s favour. The company has recently announced plans to roll out 4G services across India. With so many players already in the market, the news shouldn’t have drawn much excitement. But the buzz the company managed to generate on social media meant that a lot of people were waiting for the old warhorse to make a comeback. Check out these tweets.

And there are many more such tweets, all positive. One can only hope BSNL comes good on people’s expectation. It’s time for revival.
