Why is National Youth Day celebrated in India?
National Youth Day is celebrated in India every year on 12th January as a token of respect to the great saint Swami Vivekanand. It was in 1984 that government of India decided to declare his birthday as National Youth Day. The idea behind it was motivating the youth toward light and wisdom. The government thought that there is nobody else whose principles and teachings could guide the youth better than that of Swami Vivekanand.
Swami Vivekanand was not just a saint. He brought India a lot of glory when the country was shackled under British. Who can forget the great speech he delivered at UN? He pushed forward the idea of Hinduism and India across the world in 19th centuary, a period when India was fast losing her identity being a colony of the British. He was a firm believer in the ways of Hinduism. His contribution in putting Indian way of life on the world map was immense.
The fact that he achieved all this when India was yet to be an independent nation makes him a revolutionary like no other. He also went on to establish the famous Ramkrishna Mission. He was one great man whose words are gold even today, no wonder on 2013 Indian PM declared 4 year long celebration of his 150th birthday. His ideals are for the youth to follow and hence his birthday is rightly celebrated as National Youth Day every year in India.
National Youth Day 2021 Celebration & Events
Every year National Youth Day is celebrated by the Government of India on various levels in physical form. However, due to covid restrictions and safety protocols celebrations will be largely subdued in most states.
The Central Government will be organizing National Youth Parliament Festival 2021. The PM is also scheduled to address the youth of the country on the occassion. Everything will be telecasted live on Lok Sabha TV and events will be organized virtually. In a circular CBSE persuaded students to watch the proceedings from the safety of their homes.
In Tamil Nadu, in an official press release the government stated that it plans to organize national youth day 2021 celebrations virtually this year. In 24th National Youth Day TN will organize competitions for the age group 15-29 in 7 categories. The events will be music, Dance, Regional Attire, theatre, visual arts, expression arts and Yoga.
In Uttar Pradesh, a day celebration is organized yearly on Yuva Diwas. This year too celebrations are expected to take place while following covid norms.
The INBA, Indian National Bar Association is organizing National Youth Summit in 2021. It has invited papers for the same. It is expected that big names like judges, civil servents and law firms would grace the occassion.
