The most auspicious festival of Goddess Durga and her various forms has arrived. Hindus fast for about 9 days. The festival culminates on Navmi with a hawan, the most sacred ritual in Sanatan Dharma which cleanses the mind and the milieu. Worshippers install a kalash in their homes and ensure a lamp is lit in the temple 24x7. The festival of Navratri or Durga Puja takes lot of dedication and is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over India. Durga Puja Pandals are a thing of beauty and pilgrimage. Every year Durga Puja Committees in various cities across the country erect tents in the shape of temples and worship goddess Durga in these Pandals. Devotees swarm to these Pandals which are established in almost every nook and corner. Prasad is offered to everyone who arrives at the spot. Several Langars are organized throughout India and nobody sleeps hungry on the night of Visarjan, a ritual where idols of goddess Durga are immersed in holy rivers with a promise of grand return the next year.
However, in 2020 the coronavirus pandemic has caused disruptions in various events and festivities. This year too, city administrations are toning down the celebrations and issuing guidelines. People are advised to celebrate Navratri from the safe confines of their homes. This year, the start date of Navratri will be 17th and end date will be 25th October. Vijay Dashmi will be celebrated on 25th October.
